Opened in 1894, the elegant building that houses the New York Palace Boscolo was originally home to the famous New York Café, the most prominent traditional coffee house in Budapest at the turn of the 19th century. Over the past century, wars and negligent regimes left their ugly marks on the once magnificent building. The Boscolo Group acquired the New York Palace in 2001 and after extensive renovations the New York Palace Boscolo Budapest opened its doors to guests in early 2007. The five-year restoration project was lead by creative architects, Maurizio Papiri and Adam Tihanyi D. The hotel has an eclectic style, based on Italian Renaissance. Architecture buffs will enjoy the historic building and literary types may find inspiration at New York Café, which used to be a meeting place for artists and intellectuals.
Hotel facilities at the New York Palace include a spa and a fitness centre. Inspired by an alpine ice-tunnel, the spa has waterfalls and Swarovski crystal decorations, as well as a Turkish bath, a Jacuzzi and an indoor swimming pool.
The hotel's focal point is the New York Café with its restored ceiling murals, frescoes and gilded stucco columns. The coffeehouse serves traditional Italian and a selection of Hungarian dishes. Conveniently located on the Grand Boulevard, the New York Palace Boscolo is just a short walk from the Blaha Lujza metro station and streetcars 4/6 running on boulevard. Both the Nyugati and Keleti railway stations are a 15 minute walk away or just a few stops by public transportation from the hotel. The former Jewish Quarter is nearby with a good selection of restaurants and ruin pubs. Bock Bistro, located at the Corinthia Grand Royal hotel, is just a few minutes' walk from the Boscolo. Liszt Ferenc square with its cafes and restaurants is also walking distance.
