Christmas trams in Budapest

Christmas trams are back again for the holiday season in Budapest. This year, each tram is decorated with over 35,000 lights.

Tram spotting:

In the 2015 holiday season Christmas trams run from December 4, 2015 to January 6, 2016 on the following three lines:

  • No. 2 - between Jászai Mari tér and Közvágóhíd, along the Danube Promenade on the Pest side (every day, except Fridays and Saturdays)
  • No. 4 - between Újbuda-központ and Széll Kálmán tér, on the Grand Boulevard (every Saturday)
  • No. 47 - between Városház tér and Deák Ferenc tér (every Friday)

Christmas trams operate in the evenings, starting around 4:00 pm. All regular tickets and passes are valid on Budapest's Christmas trams. There is no service on December 24th and 31st.

Tip: Take tram No. 2 - ranked #7 on National Geographic's 'Top 10 Trolley Rides' - for a beautiful and inexpensive sightseeing tour along the Danube Promenade and see the city all lighted up.
