This modern, state-of-the-art winery mixes cutting edge technologies with traditional wine making techniques. It’s a joint venture of an award winning winemaker and an investor. The history of the winery begun in the early 90’s when Alajos Wunderlich, known as Uncle Lojzi to most people, made his first wine, a Kadarka Rosé. In 1993 it was selected as the best Kadarka at a national wine competition. In the following years Wunderlich wines became increasingly popular and demand grew. After nearly a decade of successful winemaking, with the help of an investor, Wunderlich Wine Cellars Ltd. was born and the new facilities were built just outside of Villány. Today, the winery grows grapes on 70 hectares of land and varieties include Cabernet Frank, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Oporto, Zweigelt, Kadarka and Olaszrizling.
The winery, with its unique architectural and functional solutions, is comprised of two buildings connected underground. The restaurant and bar, the wine shop, private wine tasting rooms and a cigar lounge are all located on the main floor. A cylindrical staircase and an all-glass panorama elevator connect the upper and lower levels. The terrace at the top of the winery provides magnificent views of the vineyards and Szársomlyó Mountain. Located on the lower levels, the 'dungeon' and the great room provide ample space for wine tasting, dinner and all types of social gatherings.
