In the 18th century Buda was an important center of wine making. Today, the wine growing region stretches south of Buda, with the small village of Etyek being one of the main wine producing areas. The climate is a little cooler here, which favors the production of white wines. The region is famous for making sparkling wines. The best-known products on the market are the Törley champagnes. Fresh, fragrant and elegant white wines are also produced here with increasing success.
Chardonnay is the leading variety, followed by Savignon Blanc, Riesling, Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) and Olaszrizling (Italian Riesling).
