Jégbüfé is a Budapest institution. There are no seats, only counters that line the window where you can eat, drink and people watch. Although it’s always busy, unfortunately over the past years Jégbüfé has lost its touch when it comes to the quality of the pastry. Opened in 1952, originally Jégbüfé (Ice Café) served only ice creams and parfaits, which remain its best offerings.
There are better places to enjoy Hungarian pastries however you must try this place for its special feel. The service is also unique, here is how it works: pick your desired pastries from the long counter that lines the entire store, go to the cashier and pay for your selected goodies, now take your receipt back to the counter to pick up your selection.
