Gundel has a great history and a well-earned international reputation. The first restaurant opened here in 1894. Károly Gundel took over in 1910 and transformed it into the most luxurious restaurant in Budapest. Gundel has won several awards since its opening, and many celebrities and heads of states have dined here. The menu in the Gundel is based on traditional Hungarian cuisine, as once practiced by Károly Gundel and his staff.
Gundel’s logo was designed by Milton Glaser, the famous American artist, creator of the ‘I Love New York’ logo.
Insider Tip: Be sure to try one of Gundel's signature deserts, the Gundel palacsinta. This is a crepe with a rum, raisin and walnut filling, served with chocolate sauce.
