This restaurant-café is a great breakfast, lunch and dinner spot, located on a quaint little square close to Váci Street. The cuisine is Hungarian and French, with some Italian pastas on the menu. When the weather is nice it's best to get a table outside to take in the atmosphere.

The owner also has a cheese shop, so be sure to try the cheese plate.

Insider tip: There's a nice, 19-room boutique hotel above the restaurant, Gerlóczy Rooms deLux, with great reviews.

    Step Back into Old Budapest

I own a travel consulting company and have been to B-P about 15 times in the last 20 years. I love a couple shops down the same street from Gerloczy that I always frequent and have commented on trying this restaurant every time I pass. Well, finally did, and what a fun experience. Four of us went for dinner and ordered with utter abandan, as prices are reasonable. We had Hungarian wine, ciabatta bread with Norman butter, fish, meat, salads, and the best mashed potatoes outside of my own, I’ve ever had. An older gentleman plays the harp most evenings, and he looked at us gals and proclaimed, ” I play song just for you”! Real toe-tapping music too, we loved it. When we got the bill it was $48 with tip for each couple. It was like stepping back into an old bistro or black and white French movie in the 30’s. Waiters spoke good English, service was attentive, they even serve a great breakfast in case you don’t want to an expensive hotel breakfast. We loved everything about it and can’t wait to go next time we’re in B-P.
