Considered to be one of the youngest wine-growing regions in the country, the Etyek wine region is located 30km west of Budapest. The small village of Etyek has approximately 3,500 residents and the village's only main street is closed down during the 2-day event. Many small, family owned wineries participate in the festivities, which also includes live performances and a number of children's programs.
At the Etyek Cellar Festival visitors can sample traditional Hungarian dishes, like home-made sausages, lángos, a special fry bread, cheese and jam specialities along with different types of pálinka, a fruit brandy unique to Hungary. In addition to the local varieties, wineries from Tokaj, Szekszárd, Villány, Eger and Badacsony will be there to showcase their wines.
The 2012 Etyek Cellar Festival promises to be better than ever as it marks the 10th anniversary of the event.
