The Budapest Pálinka Festival is a unique gastronomic event where visitors can taste over 300 different types of pálinka, a special Hungarian type of brandy. All major producers along with some smaller, family-run distilleries will showcase their finest spirits at the festival.
Whereas the Budapest Pálinka and Sausage Festival in the fall features a different country and its distillates each year, the Budapest Pálinka Festival is a trendsetting event by featuring a locally grown fruit used to make this unique Hungarian spirit. 2014 is the year of the pear. In addition to the huge selection of pálinka, the star of this year's festival will be a limited edition distillate made from a selection of premium cherry pálinka. Aptly named the 'Pear Pálinka of the Year', this unique spirit was produced by some of Hungary's best distillers and can be first sampled at the festival.
Pálinka is not for the faint hearted and is best accompanied by some Hungarian delicacies. If you have too much to drink, head on over to one of the food stalls offering sausages, cheese and chocolate. There will be plenty of live music to set the mood and make this event even more enjoyable.
