SPAR Budapest International Marathon - 2010
3,150 marathon runners participated in the 25th Anniversary SPAR Budapest International Marathon. The President of Hungary, Pal Schmitt, started the race and the cheering crowds set the atmosphere.
Overall, 13,800 runners filled the streets of Budapest taking part in the marathon, the relays, the mini-marathon and the fun run. Despite the rainy weather, the event turned out to be a real running festival.
Runners set off along the beautiful Andrássy Avenue and passed several of Budapest’s famous sights, including the Chain Bridge, the Budapest Opera House, Castle Hill, Gellert Hill and the Parliament building. The wind and rain along the banks of the Danube made the run even more challenging, but everyone managed to overcome the elements. The sights of Budapest, the musicians along the course, the organisers and the volunteers all pitched in to help the runners complete the distance.
1,300 international athletes participated from 50 countries from around the world. The most runners came from France, Italy, Great Britain, Finland and Germany.
