Christmas lights and holiday decorations are popping up everywhere in the city. Here is a selection of Christmas markets and fairs to visit during the holiday season.

Budapest Christmas Market

Budapest’s traditional Christmas market will be held in Vörösmarty tér. Visitors can browse over 100 stands offering Christmas decorations, foodie gifts and some authentic arts and crafts, certified by the 'House of Tradition'. Programs for kids, music and dance performances, traditional Hungarian foods like lángos and fried sausages will all be part of the experience. A glass of mulled wine or a shot of pálinka will also help you get into that merry spirit. Open: November 13 – January 6

From December to January the air around the Basilica will be filled with the scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. This charming, traditional Christmas fair has an ice-rink surrounded by a number of small wooden huts selling Christmas presents, delicious food and hot drinks. Open: November 27 - January 2
