Műjégpálya, the ice rink in City Park (Városliget), first opened to the public on Januray 29th, 1870. Back then ice skating was considered a favorite winter pastime of the elite and Rudolf, Crown Prince of Austria, was present for the opening ceremonies in Budapest. Today, Műjégpálya is still one of the largest outdoor ice-skating rinks in Europe. After extensive renovations in 2011, the City Park skating rink has been restored to its former glory. It opened to the public on December 16th, 2011 and this time I was invited to take some photos of the place where all of Budapest skates.
For info on opening hours and admission go to our Ice-skating in Budapest page.
