Hungary is becoming smoke-free just like most other EU countries and North America
As of January 1st, 2012 Hungary bans smoking in public places with an amendment of the Protection of Non-smokers Act. According to the smoke-free bill passed, smoking is banned in all enclosed spaces, including offices, restaurants and pubs as well as on public transportation, in playgrounds and in underpasses.
The law took effect with a three month grace period, meaning that fines will only be imposed beginning April 1, 2012. Smoking is still allowed at outdoor venues and open-air patios.
