Three delicious Budapest pastry shops serving up unique sweets

If you have a sweet tooth, Budapest is definitely the right place for you. The city already features many great cafés and wonderful pastry shops and the list keeps growing with a new crop of artisanal pastry shops added over the past few years. Here are three not to miss.

Cake Shop

The selection includes a great variety of cakes, cheesecakes, pies, brownies, cupcakes and some seasonal sweets. Not to be missed are the delicate macarons in a rainbow of vibrant flavors. Good coffee and friendly staff accompany the offering. The space is tiny but cozy with only a few tables. Choose from their “Premium Selection” for a traditional tastes or try the “Gourmet Selection” for unique, designer sweets with bold flavors. Their specialty, “my cake”, is a truly unique type of pastry where customers can create their own cake from the ingredients available at the store. The Cake Shop also takes orders for custom cakes.

Zazzi takes pride in their top quality French-style pastries. The line-up features fruit, chocolate and caramel mousses, fresh fruit and custard filled tarts, macarons, a variety of cakes and other flaky sweets. There is a selection of traditional Hungarian baked goods as well, including Dobos and Eszterházy cakes, krémes and other confections to satisfy nostalgic cravings. Zazzi’s success story began in Solymar, a town just outside of Budapest, when a retired math teacher and a retired doctor decided to open a patisserie. They went to France to master the techniques and committed to only use the best ingredients and the rest is history. Zazzi quickly outgrew its original location and in 2013 the patisserie moved to Budapest. Today, sweet lovers flock to Zazzi’s Óbuda location to indulge. Fans of classic French desserts shouldn’t miss it. The macarons are so good, you'll want to come back.

Sugar’s mission is to rethink what we know about sweets and bring delightful forms and design to everything from wedding cakes to muffins.
