Visiting the Spa at Four Seasons Gresham Palace

The experience starts as soon as you enter the Gresham Palace. The building that houses the Four Seasons hotel is one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau landmarks in Budapest. The history of the building goes back to the early 1900s, when it was commissioned by a wealthy Englishman. The Four Seasons hotel chain bought the former office/residential building in 2001 and restored it to its original splendor. The Art Nouveau style is visible in every detail, from the mosaic floors to the door handles. The spa and wellness area is located on the top floor of the hotel, a modern addition that feels like entering into a different world as soon as you step out of the elevator.

Changing room

Pampering started well before my treatments. The spa reception was welcoming and professional. After deciding on my treatments and completing a short consultation form (where you can specify the firmness of the massage and let them know of any allergies, etc.) it was time to change into a soft, comfortable bathrobe and slippers. The dressing room is equipped with showers, toilets and dressing-tables with mirrors, toiletries, and various accessories. From here you can head to the fitness room for a workout, to the sauna, to the pool or to the treatment rooms for a rejuvenating massage or an anti-aging facial. I was here to try Hungarian products, so I opted for the Classic Hungarian Body Wrap (90 minutes, HUF 48,000) and the Gold Plumping Facial (90 minutes, HUF 48,000). Both treatments use the products of the exclusive Hungarian spa brand, Omorovicza. The brand combines the beneficial effects of Hungary’s mineral-rich, healing thermal waters with cosmetology.

In the chic, minimalist treatment room, after slipping under the covers on the comfy, deeply padded bed, my body-wrap-experience begun with a sea salt exfoliation, followed by a complete body wrap with the mineral-rich Hungarian moor mud. My therapist, Krisztina, explained that the mud detoxifies and re-balances the skin while providing essential nutrients. After taking a warm shower, using water only, I received a relaxing massage to complete the treatment. I absolutely loved the Hungarian body wrap. The experience was pure bliss and my skin felt amazing afterwards.

The pool

The cozy relaxation room is a great way to enhance your spa experience before and after treatments. You can have a cup of green tea, a glass of water or lemonade or enjoy some fruits for a quick snack. A sauna and steam room is also available, although not recommended after the Hungarian Body Wrap, as the minerals will be less effective.

I was now ready for my facial. The rejuvenating Gold Plumping Facial includes a peel, facial and eye contour massages, a nourishing masque and gold serum and gold shimmer oil for the skin. Highlights of the facial were a copper-enriched lactic-acid peel, designed by Omorovicza to boost collagen production, along with a gold serum that helps to heal accumulated micro damages. The special facial massage helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles. This massage is based on a unique 'plumping' technique created by the spa brand to stimulate all facial muscles. To finish, I was given a gentle eye contour massage with cooling derma globes. Finally, Krisztina smoothed gold-shimmer body oil along my shoulders and down my arms making me feel ready for the red carpet.
